Nemanjic's Monasteries - The monastery of Zica, a foundation of King Stefan the First - Crowned from the beginning of 13 century. It used to be the seat of the first Serbian archbishopric and archbishop Sava Nemanjic. Here was crowned Stefan the First - Crowned, the first Serbian ruler "wreathed by the royal crown" in 1217.

Studenica monastery, a foundation of Stefan Nemanja which the creator of the Serbian state and church built at the peak of his power toward the end of 12 century was the seat of creation of first Serbian literary works and early Serbian fresco painting. The Church of the Virgin served also as the mausoleum of the dynasty and its founder.

Manastir Žiča

Za razliku od većine naših manastira koji su građeni u teško pristupačnim predelima, Žiča se nalazi u plodnoj ravnici, na samo 6 km od Kraljeva prema Mataruškoj Banji.

Zadužbina je kralja Stefana Prvovenčanog (1195 – 1223) i jedna je od najvećih svetinja srpskog naroda. Gradnja glavne manastirske crkve Sv. vaznesenja započeta je oko 1206. godine, a završena pre 1217.g., kada je njen ktitor dobio kraljevsku krunu iz Rima. Podignuta van grada, u manastirskom krugu, sagrađena je da bude sakralno mesto i mesto gde se posvećuju crkvene starešine i stoluju arhiepiskopi.

U njoj je prvi srpski arhiepiskop Sava krunisao svog starijeg brata kao prvog srpskog kralja (1217) i posvetio episkope novoosnovanih eparhija. U Žiči su krunisana još dva srpska kralja iz dinastije Nemanjića (1169-1371), Stefanovi sinovi – Radoslav i Vladislav.

Jedna lepa stara legenda o «sedmovratoj» Žiči pripoveda da je u njoj krunisano sedam kraljeva i da su, prilikom svakog krunisanja, otvarana nova vrata kroz koja je prolazio samo krunisani vladar, pa bi ta vrata potom odmah bila zazidana.

Manastirski kompleks Žiča
Od manastirskog kompleksa iz srednjeg veka sačuvane su samo Crkva sv. Spasa i mala crkvica sv.Petra i Pavla. Sve ostale zgrade su novijeg porekla. Po svojoj arhitekturi Žiča pripada raškoj školi. To je jednobrodna građevina sa polukružnom oltarskom apsidom na istočnoj, spoljnom pripratom sa kulom na zapadnoj i pravouganim pevničkim prostorijama na južnoj i severnoj strani. Nad središnjim delom naosa uzdiže se kupola sa osmougaonim tamburom.

Žiča je građena od opeke i kamena i nešto sige. Već se po odabiru materijala za gradnju vidi da je planirano da crkva bude omalterisana. Prepoznatljiva je po crvenoj boji fasade.

Unutrašnju dekoraciju čine freske koje su slabo očuvane, a delo su carigradskih majstora (iz 1219), manje talentovanih provincijskih majstora (1228-1233), a najznačajnije freske su i najmlađe (1309-1316) i nalaze se u glavnom delu crkve (Veliki praznici, scene iz života Hrista, stojeće svetiteljske figure i njihova poprsja). Vredan ansambl čine freske na zidovima prolaza ispod kule zvonika gde su pored Božićne himne i četrdeset mučenika sevastijanskih naslikani sv.Petar i sv.Pavle, kao i portreti Stefana Prvovenčanog i sina Radoslava sa darovnom poveljom. Autori ovih fresaka su majstori poznate slikarske radionice kralja Milutina.

Od nekadašnje bogate riznice manastira Žiče gotovo da ništa nije sačuvano osim relikvije desnice sv. Jovana Preteče okovane srebrom, koju je u manastir doneo sv. Sava, a danas se čuva u katedrali sv. Marije u Sijeni i dela srebrom okovanog časnog krsta iz 13. veka koji se čuva u katedrali grada Pijence, takođe u Italiji.

Crkva sv. Petra i Pavla
Nalazi se istočno od glavne crkve. Potiče iz 14. veka, jednostavne je arhitekture–jednobrodna građevina sa polukružnom apsidom na istočnoj strani. Ozidana je kamenom i opekom. Obnovljena je u 18. veku.

Monastery Ravanica

Monastery Ravanica of Prince Lazar
Ravanica monastery, together with the Church of the Holy Ascension, and its buildings surrounded by strong defensive walls with seven towers, lies at the foot of the Kučaj mountains, in the village of Senje near Ćuprija. It was the endowment of Prince Lazar. It was built during the period between 1375 and 1377, and its frescoes were painted in the years preceding the Battle of Kosovo. The benefactor’s composition was added to after Lazar’s death in the battle.

Due to its architectural and artistic features, the Ravanica church can be called the birthplace of the new artistic movement called the Morava school. The church is original in its architectural style, which is a blend of the Mount Athos tradition of the trefoil base and the cross-in-square five-domed model which became standard in the time of King Milutin. Its trefoil floor plan inspired the future development of church layout. The church was built from alternating rows of stone and brick and was decorated with ceramic ornamental elements and rich sculpture.

In its frescoes, which have remained preserved in the apse and main interior portion of the church, certain innovations can be observed relating to patterns in the selection of themes and cycles (Major Festivals, the Passion of Christ, Miracles and Parables) which were to become standard in the painting of later Moravian Serbian churches.

Monastery Ravanica

Manastir Ravanica
Manastir Ravanica se nalazi u podnožju Kučajskih planina, pored sela Senje kod Ćuprije. Manastir Ravanica je poslednja i najveća zadužbina kneza Lazara koji je poginuo u tragičnoj Bitci na Kosovu, na Vidovdan, 28. juna 1389, izmedu srpske i otomanske vojske. Manastir Ravanica - zadužbina Svetog Kneza Lazara je planirana kao njegov mauzolej. Crkva manastira Ravanice je posvećena Vaznesenju Gospodnjem i ograđena je čvrstim odbrambenim zidom sa sedam kula. Ravanica je sagrađena između 1375. i 1381. godine, dok su u kasnijim godinama dodati delovi /konak, trpezarija, bolnica, zaštitni zid/, a freske su oslikane nekoliko godina pred Kosovsku bitku. Ktitorska kompozicija je izmenjena i doslikana je Lazareva tragična pogibija na Kosovu Polju. Na njoj se, pored kneza Lazara, nalazi i knjeginja Milica i njihovi sinovi Stefan i Vuk.

Budući da je povezana sa Knezom Lazarom, najznačajnijim likom kosovskog pripovedačkog ciklusa narodnih pesama, manastir Ravanica je postao veoma poznat širom zemlje Srbije. Nekoliko puta je manastir Ravanica teško ostećivan i paljen tokom turske vladavine, te je obnovljan u 16. veku, da bi tokom Prve velike seoba Srba /krajem 17. veka/, dočekao svoju najtužniju sudbinu, kada je popaljen i opljačkan, te bio napušten narednih 30 godina. Tokom habsburške okupacije (1717 - 1739) je Manastir Ravanica obnovljen, kada je izgrađen novi nizak konak i oslikan novim freskama.

Manastir Ravanica

Po svojim arhitektonskim i likovnim obeležjima, ravanička crkva predstavlja početak moravske škole. Crkva manastira Ravanica predstavlja originalno arhitektonsko rešenje nastalo spajanjem svetogorske tradicije trolisne osnove i modela upisanog krsta sa pet kupola, odomaćenog u vreme Kralja Milutina u 14. veku. Trolisna osnova manastira Ravanice je postala uzor u daljem razvoju prostorne koncepcije hramova. Crkva manastira Ravanice je zidana uobičajenim vizantijskim stilom - naizmeničnim redovima kamena i opeke, "oživljena" i ukrašena velikom rozetom iznad zapadnog portala, keramoplastičnim dekorativnim elementima u obliku poluobličastih bojenih šahovskih polja ispod kupole i bogatom reljefnom plastikom na prozorima. Srpski patrijarh Danilo treci ovako opisuje knezevo ukrasavanje Ravanice : "Bozansku je crkvu prekrasnim mramorjem urasio, zlatom i srebrom je bozanstvene ikone izobrazio. I ne samo ikone, nego je i zidove zlatom prosvetlio. Manastir je ogradio visokim pirgovima /kulama/ i cvrstim zidovima, i utvrdio ogradom, kakve do tada nije bilo".

Na freskama manastira Ravanice, koje su ostale očuvane u oltarskom i glavnom unutrašnjem prostoru crkve, zapažaju se izvesne novine vezane za šeme u izboru tema i ciklusa /Veliki praznici, Hristova stradanja, Čuda i parabole/, koje će postati pravilo u oslikavanju budućih hramova moravske Srbije. U kupolama su freske Hrista, Bogorodice, Anđela i proroka, u oltaru su predstave Hristovog stradanja i ovaploćenja, dok su u naosu oslikani ciklusi Velikih praznika, Čuda i jevanđelskih pripovesti kao i sveti ratnici i monasi. U samoj crkvi manastira Ravanica danas se nalaze svete mošti Svetog Kneza Lazara koje su veoma poštovane i stvorile jedno od najznačajnijih mesta hodočašća Srba.

Do danas su sačuvane tri kule i deo severnog bedema manastirskog kompleksa Ravanice, ali je za potrebe odbrane manastira podignutog u recnoj dolini, sigurno bilo neophodno veliko i jako utvrđenje. U starim izvorima se pominje da je manastirska utvrda Ravanice imala 7 pirgova, dok je jedan putopisac 1568. godine video svega 4 očuvane kule. U prvoj polovini 19. veka /1829. godine/, je unutar manastirskog kompleksa Ravanice još uvek postojala velika trpezarija iz srednjeg veka, ali nje danas više nema. Kao značajno središte duhovnog, kulturnog, književnog i umetničkog života, Ravanica je uticala na nastanak više crkava i manastira, među kojima se ističu obližnji manastir Sisojevac i crkve u Petruškoj oblasti.
